*Give and take pacing throughout. Congregation and Cantor sing beautifully. As organist, I try to add color and variety, as suggested by Alice Parker in her book "Melodious Accord - Good Singing in Church". The fact there is such singing proves to me counterpoint does not confuse singers (as long as my fingers and feet don't go "off the rails" - my health issues are legion and I occasionally lose the thread). I'm confident any healthy young person with an aptitude and enthusiasm for accompanying hymn singing will find these arrangements encourage singing. Yes, there's a learning curve, but I believe most musicians, perfectionists excepted, listening to the "sung portion of Mass" recording above, will find any doubts put to rest. I had played here for two Masses most Sundays for 18 years. The Mass recording above was made of the earlier of the two Masses (summer 2020) on my final day on the job. Immediately after, or during the final seconds of the later Mass, I had an Absence Seizure which forced me to accept the fact that driving was no longer an option. Since I had been driving to and from my position, I had to reluctantly submit my resignation.
